Wine Library & More

Victoria Wines & Spirits is the only dedicated wine importer and distributor in Fiji with the largest and most diverse wine library for you to enjoy. Our collection covers key wine regions in Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and the USA. It includes a rare collection of Fine Wines cellared by us and available on application.

FRANCE Champagne

Our lines from France include a great selection of Champagnes, and of these Taittinger, Louis Roederer and Bollinger are all rated almost annually in the top five Grande Marque Champagnes for quality and consistency.  We also carry the great value Cattier Champagne and, from associated companies, Pol Roger and Billecart Salmon.

FRANCE Burgundy

We also cover the important French wine regions. Burgundy is represented by wines ranging from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the South, and ranging through the Cote de Beaune, the Cote d’Or and Macon with respected labels Bouchard Aine & Fils, J. Moreau & Fils, and Mommessin offering superb Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay options.

FRANCE Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region is renowned for its great red wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with lesser amounts of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The white wines of Bordeaux are blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon and range from the elegant dry whites of the Medoc through to the world’s finest dessert wines from Sauternes which are Semillon dominant. Our selection is largely Negociant derived and has a wide range of all of these.

FRANCE Loire Valley

The Upper Loire Valley is famed for Sauvignon Blanc in the regions of Sancerre and Pouilly, where the elegance and acidity of this varietal reaches its peak in a similar fashion to that of the nearby region of Chablis, though the latter of course with the Chardonnay varietal; we represent the important local winery of Pascal Jolivet.

FRANCE Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley is famed in the cooler north for Syrah and in the warmer south for red blends featuring the Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault varietals. We carry the wines of Paul Jaboulet Aine & Fils, which range from the famous Hermitage and Cote Rotie wines in the north to Chateauneuf du Pape and Cote de Rhone in the south.

Gerard Bertrand has brought an increased level of quality with these southern grapes in vineyards that stretch from the Rhone all the way through to the foothills of the Pyrenees.

FRANCE Provence

We have a range of the famous Provence Rosé wines, based on the same southern red grapes and all showing those crisp, elegant and flavorsome qualities that define this region. They range from entry level, good value examples to the most highly acclaimed Provence Rosé available – Domaine OTT.

ITALY Veneto

Our Italian collection starts in the north-east in the Veneto region with a range of high quality and true Proseccos from Bottega S.P.A. based in and around the classic area of Valdobbiadene. There are also good quality Pinot Grigios and Valpolicella based reds.

ITALY Tuscany

Antinori leads our supplies from Tuscany and Central Italy with a wide range of top quality wines ranging from Chianti Classico, through Brunello and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to classic Super-Tuscans like Tignanello, Guado al Tasso and Solaia. At an entry level Antinori has a 2nd label - Santa Christina, which has Tuscan and Umbrian whites including Orvieto and Bianco Toscana.

ITALY Piedmont

In the north-western region of Piedmont we feature the Prunotto winery with the acclaimed Nebbiolo grape from the villages of Barbaresco and Barolo. Famed for its quality and longevity, modern techniques have made Nebbiolo more approachable much earlier.

SPAIN Priorat, Alta Rioja, Bierzo

We feature Spain’s most famous winemaker Alvaro Palacio who makes wine in three regions that span the entire width of northern Spain. Near the east coast he produces Garanacha based wines, that stand equally with the best wines of Bordeaux, from the hills of Priorat – culminating in his celebrated L’Ermita; from his family vineyards in the Alta Rioja region he produces high quality Riojas based on Garanacha and Temperanillo grapes; towards the west coast and to the north-east of Portugal he has revived ancient vineyards at Bierzo using the ancient Spanish grape Mencia.

SPAIN Penedes

The sparkling wine of Spain is Cava – a name that resonates in Fiji! - and we have one of the best examples available from Penedes (the sparkling wine region near Barcelona) from the Vilarnau winery; this is fully “methode traditionelle”.

SPAIN Cadiz

Spain and Portugal have been famous for many centuries for their fortified wines. Spain has been the source of Sherries made mainly from Palamino grapes from the Cadiz region at the southern tip of Spain, and these range from dry Finos (Tio Pepe) to more oxidized Amontillado and Cream sherries; we feature examples from the Gonzalez Byass company.

PORTUGAL Duoro Valley

Port, as the name suggests, originated and thrives in Portugal. We feature Graham’s Port and include a range of Vintage Ports, aged Tawny Ports, LBVs and Crusted Ports to make the perfect end to a meal or an evening.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA California, Washington State, Oregon

Our American wines are all from the Pacific coast, ranging from warmer areas in Southern California up through Oregon and Washington State. We have excellent Napa Valley Cabernets and Chardonnays from the famous Stags Leap Wine Cellars, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from Erath Vineyards in Oregon, and a range of Chardonnays, Rieslings, Cabernets and Merlots from the newer wineries in Washington State.

ARGENTINA Mendoza

We represent one of Argentina’s most highly acclaimed and reputable wineries – Trapiche, based in the country’s famed wine region of Mendoza on the western foothills of the Andes.

Mendoza is most famous for its Malbec wines, and we have them from entry level through to the highest quality. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot also thrive at Mendoza and are especially recommended at the “Broquel” level which is medium priced but with great quality.

CHILE Maipo, Leyda, Cachapoal Valley, Central Valley, Maule

We offer a selection of recognizable and highly respected labels from the different key wines regions of Chile, including the renowned Maipo and Leyda regions as well as the Aconcagua, Cachapoal, Central, and Maule Valleys. We again offer a selection of great food wines through to highly acclaimed wines from Errazuriz, and single vineyard wines from Anakena, Luis Filipe Edwards and San Pedro.

AUSTRALIA Margaret River (Western Australia)

Moving closer to home and across the Pacific Ocean we represent some of the most highly acclaimed wineries in Australia. In Western Australia we feature wines from the remarkable Margaret River area renowned for its excellent Bordeaux varietals, and we represent the highly awarded Vasse Felix winery that produces great Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz red varietals, but also great Chardonnay and Sauvignon/Semillon blends.

AUSTRALIA Tasmania and South Australia

Champagnes and other sparkling wines need very cool climates, and the region of Australia that most closely suits these conditions is Tasmania. This has led to a rapid growth of high quality “bubbles” production there and we stock NV, Vintage and Rose from the Jansz vineyards in the Pipers Brook area of northern Tasmania. Originally started in partnership with the famous Louis Roederer Champagne House, the winery is in fact named after Abel Janszoon Tasman – the first European seafarer to sight and document the island of Tasmania.

We work closely with the top wineries in South Australia, including Yalumba, the oldest family-owned winery in Australia which is based in Angaston with outstanding vineyards throughout the Barossa, and as far west as Coonawarra. South Australia has built a high reputation for the Shiraz and Rhone style wines it produces and we work closely with Glaetzer and John Duval from the Barossa, Jim Barry from Clare Valley, Henschke from the Eden Valley, Yangarra and Heartland from McLaren Vale, and Sidewood from the Adelaide Hills, to just mention a few of the stars in our portfolio.

NEW ZEALAND Kumeu River and Hawkes Bay

Our closest wine producing neighbour is New Zealand and this is where our portfolio really shines, with the top producers from all the key wine regions represented. Being over 1600 kms long from North to South, and having both maritime and continental climatic characteristics, New Zealand can produce great wines from a wide range of varietals. The diversity of terroir and climate is illustrated in the excellent Chardonnays from Kumeu River north of Auckland to the highly acclaimed red wine varietals in Hawkes Bay.

Hawkes Bay in the north-west of North Island is the warmest wine region and tectonic uplift has given it extensive gravel beds which now makes the Gimblett Gravels one of the world’s great wine areas. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay thrive in Hawkes Bay and we represent Craggy Range, Esk Valley and Villa Maria.

NEW ZEALAND Martinborough

Martinborough at the southern tip of the North Island also benefits from uplifted river gravels but is both cooler and windier and able to produce beautifully structured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and a range of varietals including Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. We represent Ata Rangi, Craggy Range and Palliser Estate.

NEW ZEALAND Marlborough

Marlborough on the northern tip of the South Island is by far the largest wine-producing area in New Zealand and this is largely based on the Sauvignon Blanc varietal. It is again founded on sands, gravels and cobbles eroded from the uplift of the Alpine chain, but also shielded from damaging westerlies by these same mountains; it also basks in their rain shadow which gives Marlborough the most sunshine hours in New Zealand. Sauvignon Blanc has found its perfect terroir in Marlborough and develops an intensity of flavour which makes it pre-eminent in the world. The cooler maritime climate makes most reds struggle to fully ripen, but Pinot Noir enjoys the longer ripening period, developing fruit-rich wines with cherry to plum flavours. Chardonnay is another Marlborough star and with Pinot Noir is the basis for a major sparkling wine sector.  We represent the Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, Nautilus, Greywacke and Odyssey wineries.

NEW ZEALAND Central Otago

Central Otago is our fourth major wine district and is also the most southerly and the only one with a distinctly continental climate. The much colder winters and warm inland summers particularly favour Pinot Noir which is by far the dominant varietal for this region, but some excellent examples of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer are now starting to be produced. We represent the Akarua, Gibbston Valley and Misha’s Vineyard wineries.
